So the past couple of weeks were really hard weeks for various reasons. Nick was gone quite a bit. We had some family issues pop up. And then just normal life things that can get you down. Last Sunday our dear friend Chelsea, who is married to Nick’s best friend, sent us a last minute text and asked us if we wanted to come to her 30th birthday party in San Antonio. Now normally we are not spontaneous people, but we both love, love, love, love, love San Antonio, we needed a little break and we love (x1000) Tim and Chelsea, and so we quickly decided that yes, we were coming!
(Side Note: I have about a half dozen mini to big vacations to catch up on, but this one is coming first because I have the pictures handy and I am in the mood!)
We knew Chelsea’s birthday party would be Saturday, and we decided to get a room at the JW Marriott in San Antonio on Friday. We stayed at a JW Marriott in Thailand, and it was so nice, and as a bonus, we get to use points that Nick acquires on his business travels so its free for us! Nick was in Houston for the week, and we decided to meet up in Temple at his parents’ house Thursday night before heading to San Antonio Friday so that we could arrive at the resort earlier.
On the way down to San Antonio, we were also able to get our oil changed on the minivan that we bought in March for free at the dealership where we bought it. We have driven it over 7,000 miles already and it only just now needed an oil change!
Anyway, Friday was such a perfect day, and we had so much fun playing at the waterpark at the Marriott! There was a splash pad, several big slides, a lazy river and a huge pool. Gemma and I even went on one of the big slides! It was safe enough for the two of us. We also spent a lot of time at the pool and in the lazy river, and surprisingly little time at the Splash Pad. The girls were worn out by the end of the day!
Nick laid Gemma down on the lounge chair and she would not move!
That night there was a movie that you could watch while floating in the pool, but we thought that maybe that wouldn’t be such a good idea for Gemma so instead we went to the live concert on the lawn. Isla and Gemma had so much fun dancing in front of the state… Gemma even tried to climb on stage a couple of times! I wonder what the band thought…
People are always telling me that the girls get their expressiveness from me… but gracious have you SEEN their daddy?
Around 9:30 or so we took our exhausted girls up to bed! Nick has a high elite status with Marriott, and so we received a free upgrade! Our room had a HUGE balcony with two lounge chairs, which we have never had before. It overlooked the lawn and the concert and so we were able to sit and talk and listen to music, while the girls slept inside. It was lovely! If only I could drink wine right now, it would have been perfect .
The next day we spent all day at the party and Nick had so much fun reconnecting with Tim’s family. They grew up next door to each other from the ages of 4 (Tim) and 6 (Nick) and so he knows them well and loves Tim’s family very much. Although we see Tim and Chelsea quite a bit, it had been while since we had seen Tim’s family. The girls had so much fun! Tim’s family was very sweet to them and adopted them for the day. I was just able to sit on my fat, pregnant fanny and let other people chase them around!
Sunday before heading home, we stopped back off at Tim and Chelsea’s to chat. Tim and Chelsea have chickens and with less people there, we were able to get them out, which the girls loved.
Just chillaxin’ and chattin’!
We headed home after lunch, and of course, 5 minutes before we arrived home… this happened! Those girls had played HARD for three days straight, so I’m surprised that it took this long. They slept really well that night though.
It was such a great weekend and a perfect little getaway, and probably our last before Baby Shaka arrives! I wish we lived in San Antonio!
