Why care about the orphan?

Or more specifically, why care about special needs orphans?

This is such a difficult question to answer and one that you have to tackle from many angles.

The easiest answer should be that if you are a Christian, you are commanded to care for the orphan… and not only that, God also makes it clear that He notices when people don’t.

“They do not promote the case of the fatherless; they do not defend the just cause of the poor.” Jeremiah 5:28

I know that I have a tendency to focus on the punitory aspect of scripture… but jeeze louise church?  What will it take for Christians to wake up and realize this is YOUR problem?  Are you not daughters and sons of the King?  Have we not been commanded to live out the Kingdom of Heaven among us?

God has lot to say about the orphan and care of the orphan (and the widow and the poor and the foreigner), read it, its all HERE.  Its not a “calling”, its not optional; it’s a commandment.

Is it so hard to part with $5 to care for an orphan in distress?  Or to take 5 seconds to vote in a contest.  I admit that I was heartbroken by the lack of help that I received from Christians during the Cultivate Wines contest.  How many Christians read my blog or are my Facebook “friends”?  I was so disheartened by the lack of support that I received.  5 seconds of every Christian Facebook “friend” that I have’s times, and we would have won with no problem! We only lost by a few hundred votes…

This is our problem, and we have the power to do something about it.

Those aren’t babies in those cribs…

This video is really hard to watch.  This little girl has hydrocephalus and a minor club foot, and yet she has been left wasting away in a crib her entire life.  No therapy – crawling with ants that eat her flesh. It doesn’t have to be this way.

And Sonny… look at his face. Do you think he looks this way because he has Down Syndrome?

If you have a minute, please go over to A Perfect Lily (and take a look at one of the cutest little two year olds you will ever see! Seriously, in a world with Isla Frances, its should be a crime to be such a cute toddler).  Patti, the blog author has a daughter with DS, and every year she does a post for families with DS children to show off their treasures. Its called Thankful for You and you can see it HERE.  Guess what?  Those children aren’t bruised and haunted like Sonny.  They sparkle!  Because they are loved.

Sonny has been profoundly neglected on every level since he was transferred to an adult mental institution.  Please help me make a family for him, a rescue for him, a reality.

“Rescue those being led away to death; hold back those staggering toward slaughter.” Proverbs 24:11

Because Sonny is my Angel Tree babe, you can enter the giveaway by making a tax-deductible donation to his Reece’s Rainbow account. One donation of $5 will put your name in our giveaway! Entries $35 and over, and you will receive an adorable ornament with Sonny’s picture on it.

After that, if you feel led to help, please consider donating to Suzanne OR Daphne. By donating to these girls, you gain additional entries for the prizes, starting at $5 for each girl.

As an incentive for making additional donations, you will receive additional entries for every additional $5 donated to any of our children.
