Originally when we found out we would be taking a vacation sometime in June, we thought we would go to London. We knew we wanted to go somewhere where English was the main language, but after we had lived here in Novo for a while, we realized that we lived in a city and did a lot of traveling to cities (Moscow, St Petersburg). We decided for our R&R, we wanted to go somewhere in the country with lots of GREEN. That’s when we changed our plans to go to Ireland!
I spent a lot of time researching places in the countryside that were beautiful, with lots of mild hiking. I found Gougane Barra National park, and it was everything I was hoping it would be! Our hotel was right next to the park; we spent 2 beautiful nights there, and loved every second of it. It was the perfect place to recharge. I hope to go back one day because it just might be one of my most favorite places in the world.
The night we arrived, the entire countryside surrounding Gougane Barra was covered in mist. It felt like we were arriving to a beautiful dream. Here is the view outside of our hotel (and bedroom window!).
The next morning, it was just as beautiful in the sunshine!
We decided to spend the morning doing some hiking in the park. It was so beautiful, and just like something out of the Brothers Grimm. I kept expecting Rumpelstiltskin to jump out from behind a mossy tree! I’ll let the pictures speak for themselves.
I couldn’t get over the view here!
After we were done hiking, we decided to take nap. It was delicious! Then we decided to explore the area right outside of our hotel. Gougane Barra is famous for the beautiful chapel out on an island on the lake.
We tried to get a picture of Isla on the steps of the church, but she would have none of it!
She raced after her Daddy…
who was more than happy to sweep her back up into his arms!
Such a special place!
